Yaqui Wisdom Keeper, Technology & STEAM Education Researcher

Dr. Juan-Carlos Chavez received traditional medicines from his grandfather in the Sonoran Desert. His Indigenous identity is of mixed heritage and he celebrates the Yaqui traditions of where he was birthed and raised. His spirituality is amplified by his military service, education and service to his four children, spouse and family.

He serves as a researcher in the fields of technology and STEAM education. He is guided by a Great Spirit that determines his contributions to society and has achieved the accolades that are relevant to Western thought. His endeavor is to reconnect Indigenous ways of knowing by offering his knowledge yet listening and learning to one day return to Mother Earth and Father Sky in a good way.
